Caitlyn

Caitlyn

Caitlyn recently graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), with a major in Humanitarian Engineering where she earned First Class Honours through her dedication, resilience, and commitment to excellence. She is now undertaking a post-graduate Masters degree through the University of NSW and the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) in Systems Engineering with a specialisation in Reliability Engineering.

Caitlyn’s honours thesis investigated the development of a product to treat jaundice in remote communities within Sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia, working to promote equality, accessibility and inclusivity of healthcare worldwide.

Before finding her true calling, Caitlyn explored degrees in Human Science and Mechatronics Engineering. She reflects that this final degree challenged her in ways she didn’t expect. “The University of Sydney, along with the incredible lecturers and convenors I met in my time there, taught me to problem-solve with empathy and to stay grounded in the real-world impact engineering can have, especially in communities where it’s needed most.”

Caitlyn is also a New Colombo Plan Scholar and, in 2023, participated in the Disaster Risk and Resilience in the Philippines Mobility Program field school completing a research project on encouraging equal Livelihood Opportunities for individuals in remote parts of the Philippines. This project was associated with Habitat for Humanity and worked towards improving the outcomes of individuals affected by disasters and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This experience required her to adapt to challenging environments, complete data analysis, overcome adversity, and develop practical, community-focused solutions, all while forming lasting friendships and cultural connections.

Driven by a passion for inclusion, one of Caitlyn’s core goals is to make healthcare, wellness, and recreation more accessible for all. Beyond her academic and professional achievements, she brings over 10 years of leadership and coaching experience in disability swimming and tutoring, offering a unique, firsthand perspective on the diverse needs of people with disabilities and the NDIS community.
